Caring for a New Tattoo
Caring for your new tattoo is just as important as choosing the perfect design. Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals correctly and remains vibrant. Failing to follow the right aftercare instructions can lead to infection or improper healing, which may require additional touch-ups.
Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Clean the Tattoo: Wash your tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap at least 2 hours after your session. This will help remove any residual blood, ink, or plasma left on the skin.

Dry and Protect: Gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel—avoid rubbing the area. Wear loose clothing to prevent irritation and friction on the tattooed area.
Apply Aftercare Ointment: After 48 hours, apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare ointment recommended by your artist. This helps nourish and protect the tattoo.
Maintain Cleanliness: Keep the tattoo clean and avoid touching it unnecessarily. Apply a thin layer of ointment as needed. More sensitive areas may require more frequent application to stay moisturized.
What to Expect During the Healing Phase
1-4 Days
Congratulations! You’ve made it through the tattoo session, and now the healing begins! During the first few days, expect some soreness and sensitivity around the tattooed area. It’s important to keep the area clean and wear loose clothing to prevent irritation.
4-7 Days
The soreness will start to subside, and the redness will begin to soften and fade. As light scabbing forms, you may experience some itching—this is a normal part of the healing process. Avoid touching the tattooed area, but you can apply a light layer of tattoo ointment to help relieve the itching.
7-14 Days
By now, any soreness should have gone away, and you’ll likely notice thicker scabs forming that may begin to flake and peel. It’s crucial not to pick at the scabs! Continue keeping the tattoo clean and dry as it nears the final stages of healing.
